I’m alive. Some time ago, around the time of my last blogpost, I caught an illness that was (and still is) sweeping through my island. Dengue Fever, also known as “Bone Break Fever” is an illness that occurs when an infected mosquito decides to bite you. I’ll spare the details of every symptom, but I’ll summarize it as, 50-days of hell. My symptoms got severe enough I caught a plane to the capitol and would spend my mornings getting blood work done and the evenings laying in bed trying to save up enough strength to get food. One of these evenings, I was on my phone playing chess, as I usually do during my down time. My phone decided to turn off. My phone also decided it would never turn back on again. Phone-less, bedridden, and not on my home island, I struggle walked to Peace Corps HQ the next morning to see if they had a phone I could use. Fortunately, they did. I don’t know if I would call it a smart phone, but it can make phone calls. Eventually I flew back to Vava’u and was still spending most of my time in bed resting from the Dengue. Since my new to me dinosaur phone wasn’t able to run chess, I elected to play on my computer to pass the time. That was cool for a while. Until one day my computer also decided it was time to turn off and never turn back on. (Smart) Phone and computer-less, I’ve spent the last five-ish months having little access to technological luxuries. The reason I tell this story is to explain to my loyal four subscribers, that this is where my blog has been. However, I am officially entering my iPad Kid Era, thank you father for the birthday present. And I am officially dusting this lovely blog off. That is until this piece of technology decides it’s time to die too. I blame the humidity.
